Composite Stable Doors: Supplied & Fitted Across Scotland
A stable door gives you the best of both halves. Open the top for fresh air and light while the bottom keeps children, pets and the weather exactly where they should be. Ours are modern composite stable doors: the traditional look, none of the upkeep, and the same security as a full composite front door.

Supplied and fitted by our own team across Glasgow, Stirling and Scotland, from £2,160 including VAT. We don’t have a stable door on display, but both showrooms have plenty of Portico doors, so you can see the colours, hardware and quality for yourself before you decide.
The traditional look, none of the upkeep
Ventilation without the open-door risk
Perfect for kitchens, utility rooms and back doors, let air through while the bottom stays locked.
Traditional look, modern performance
A composite core wrapped in a weatherproof skin. It won’t warp, rot, swell or need painting, unlike a timber stable door.
Made for Scottish weather
Composite doors don’t absorb moisture, so a wet winter won’t leave you with a sticking door by spring.

Warmer than the old one
Independent top and bottom seals plus a central weather seal mean a modern stable door is far more thermally efficient than the draughty timber version most people picture.
Secure as standard
Multi-point locking on both halves, with the option to lock the halves together so it operates as a single door. We fit Ultion cylinders as standard, anti-snap, anti-pick and anti-drill, with a lockdown mode that engages automatically if the cylinder is attacked.

Our stable door range
We fit stable doors from Portico, a leading UK composite door manufacturer. The Portico stable range includes:
- A choice of glazed or solid top halves
- Any RAL colour, with the option of a different colour inside and out
- Traditional cottage styles and cleaner contemporary designs
- Matching frames, sidelights and toplights where the opening allows
- Acoustic glazing and integrated blinds (double glazed units) available on glazed doors, sidelights and toplights
- Ultion high-security cylinders fitted as standard, with the option of Ultion KeyTag so you can find your keys with Apple Find My
Every stable door is made to measure, so awkward openings in older properties aren’t a problem.
And the frame matches your windows. Every Portico door we fit is hung in a VEKA Halo frame, the same profile and colour as our VEKA windows, so if we’ve done your windows, or you’re doing them at the same time, the door frame and the window frames are identical. No slightly-different white, no mismatched profile. Handles, hinges and letterplate are from the same ERA and Fab&Fix ranges we fit on every window and door, so the finish carries through the whole house.

Where stable doors work best
- Back and side doors: the most common choice, especially onto gardens
- Kitchens and utility rooms: ventilation while cooking, without leaving the house open
- Cottages, farmhouses and rural properties: the traditional look suits period homes across Stirlingshire, the Trossachs and beyond
- Homes with young children or dogs: top half open, bottom half closed
What does a stable door cost in Scotland?
A composite stable door typically costs more than a standard composite door because of the extra frame, locking and sealing involved in the two-part design. Prices depend on the style, colour, glazing and any sidelights.
Composite stable doors start from £2,160 supplied and installed, including VAT. We’ll give you an accurate fixed price after a free home survey, and the price we quote is the price you pay, with no last-minute additions.

Your questions answered
Are stable doors secure?
Yes. Each half has its own multi-point lock, and the halves can be bolted together so the door locks as one unit. They come with an Ultion cylinder as standard, the same as our full composite front doors.
Can I have a stable door as a front door?
You can, though most customers fit them as back or side doors. If you want the look at the front, a cottage-style composite door with a stable-style split glazing pattern is another option, ask in the showroom.
Are stable doors draughty?
Older timber ones often were. A modern composite stable door has weather seals on both halves and along the central join, so it performs much like a standard composite door.
How long does fitting take?
Usually half a day. Our own installers fit every door, no subcontractors.
Do you fit stable doors outside Glasgow and Stirling?
Yes, across Scotland, including Falkirk, Lanarkshire, Dunbartonshire, Renfrewshire and Perthshire. Get in touch to check your area.
